Rashid hospital broadcasts 21 surgeries live to Emirates International Gastroenterology and Hepatology Conference 19-11-2019 12:00 AM Share

More than 600 doctors and specialists from around the world attended the Emirates International Gastroenterology and Hepatology Conference (EIGHC 2019), which concluded on Saturday. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), the event took place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from November 14 – 16.

EIGHC 2019 aims to provide an opportunity for gastroenterology and hepatology professionals to learn about the latest research and advancements in the field. During the conference, attendees got to watch live videos from the operation theatres of the gastroenterology unit at Rashid Hospital of 21 surgeries conducted by skilled DHA doctors and visiting doctors. H.E Humaid Al Qutami, Director General of the DHA visited the operation theatre to oversee the broadcasting of the surgeries to the Dubai World Trade Centre. During his visit he commended the efforts of the medical cadres working at the hospital adding that the authority constantly strives to equip its hospitals with the latest –state of the art technology and skilled medical experts. Dr Sameer Al Awadhi, the president of the conference and Head of Gastroenterology Unit at Rashid Hospital said the 21 surgeries included complicated procedures on patients who were suffering from gallstone or bile stone blocking the pancreatic duct, pancreatic cysts that needed diagnosis and treatment and lumps in the stomach that needed removal.

Al Awadhi said that the conference’s objectives were to elevate the level of science in gastroenterology and hepatology in the region through the delivery of an excellent scientific meeting that fosters knowledge sharing and exchanging of experiences through keynote sessions, symposia and panel discussions. EIGHC 2019 is one of the only conference in the region where societies like the World Gastroenterology Organisation, European Association for the Study of the Liver; World Endoscopy Organization; European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization; and European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy are invited to deliver sessions under one umbrella, that of EIGHC 2019.
