Dubai won the “Highly Recommended Destination of the Year,” for health tourism, by the International Medical Travel Journal (IMTJ) during the IMTJ Medical Award 2016 in Spain last week.
This achievement reaffirms that Dubai is on the right path towards fulfilling its goal of becoming a favourite destination for health tourism.
“We are proud and honoured with this achievement that reflects the high standard of medical services overseen and regulated by the Dubai Health Authority. This is a testament that the medical services in the city are at par with international standards,” said Dr Laila Al Marzouqi, Director of the Health Regulation Department and the Dubai Health Tourism at Dubai Health Authority (DHA). Al Marzouqi said Dubai was able to win this title due to its strategic location, diagnostic and treatment services, ease of getting visas, availability of medical insurance, competitive packages and infrastructure.
The Dubai Health Experience (DXH) project, which provides a one stop electronic portal for medical tourists to book tickets and access comprehensive information about the health care services, visas, hotel and other touristic services and packages—also qualified Dubai to win this title, said Al Marzouqi.
She added that this achievement brings Dubai a step closer to achieving its goal of attracting more than 500,000 medical tourists by 2020. Chairman of the judging panel and Managing Editor of IMTJ Keith Pollard said the award celebrates the best providers in the industry and aim to encourage others to strive to match them. “All our winners exemplify the way the health tourism industry should be run – professional, offering exceptional patient care and providing the best possible medical outcomes. I’m already looking forward to next year’s awards in the hope that other clinics and companies will have raised their game to match or even better this year’s winners,” he said.
