Cataracts are cloudy patches in the lens of the eye that are common as a result of aging. Cataract removal surgery is recommended when these cause substantial impairment to vision. The affected lens is removed through a small incision and a clear lens replacement is implanted in its place. It is a straightforward procedure, usually done with local anesthetic and not requiring any overnight stay. It takes around 30 to 45 minutes.
